Cottage Ave Groundbreaking Celebration
On Monday, April 21, the Housing First Minnesota Foundation, Lennar, and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV), broke ground on their 15th Housing for Heroes home build project—a powerful step forward in their ongoing commitment to ending veteran homelessness in Minnesota.

Each Housing for Heroes home, including this new build, is part of our Foundation’s mission to support veterans and veteran families who are experiencing—or at risk of experiencing—homelessness.
On any given night, approximately 200 Minnesota veterans are without stable housing. Together, we’re working tirelessly to change it.
This Cottage Ave home in Saint Paul will add 2,206 square feet of transitional housing, helping to bridge the gap between instability and a permanent home for veterans in need. And we’re not stopping there.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, we welcomed key voices from our partner organizations, Lennar and MACV to the stage and celebrated this moment with ceremonial photos and community camaraderie. It was a day of hope, purpose, and partnership.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this incredible milestone! Together, we are building more than homes—we’re building futures.

An Impactful 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to share that the Foundation will also begin construction on the Veteran Village—a first-of-its-kind, townhome-style community specifically designed to serve homeless veterans. This transformative project represents the next bold chapter in our commitment to ending veteran homelessness.
With the completion of all 2025 Housing for Heroes projects, we’re hopeful to reach a historic milestone: an effective end to veteran homelessness across the state of Minnesota. That’s not just progress—it’s a promise fulfilled, and we’re incredibly grateful to be part of this work.

We extend our deepest thanks to our build partner, Lennar, the Lennar Foundation, and all our generous funders, donors, and partners. We would especially like to thank the Hugh J. Andersen Foundation for their grant support of this build project. The unwavering support of our industry and community makes every nail, every wall, and every warm welcome possible.
