The end of another long election season is about to come to a close. And for the housing industry this has been an election unlike any other. As housing prices continue to stay elevated and more and more homebuyers struggle to get into the ownership game, housing has been a higher voter priority than any other time in recent memory.
As the state’s leading association defending the housing industry and homeownership, Housing First Minnesota is very active in Minnesota politics.
Our first goal is to elevate housing and homeownership as part of the election discussion. There is no doubt that this goal has been accomplished. More and more Minnesotans than ever before are viewing housing affordability as top issue.
Our second goal is to grow the bipartisan caucus of housing supporters. In 2024, Housing First Minnesota endorsed our most bipartisan and geographically diverse slate ever! We look forward to working with many of these folks to continue to address housing issues in the upcoming legislative session.
“Housing availability and affordability issues will not go away after November 5th,” said Mark Foster, vice president of legislative & political affairs. “If anything, these issues should be a top priority for our newly elected officials to get to work on. No matter what the outcome, there will be opportunities and challenges presented to the industry over the coming years. We are hopeful that the solutions we present can find agreement from both sides of the aisle.”
With just days left to vote, we encourage you to examine your ballot and vote for pro-housing candidates. Watch for a post-election and pre-legislative session analysis in the coming weeks. As always, if you have any questions related to our electoral and legislative programs reach out to Mark Foster, vice president of legislative & political affairs at mark@housingfirstmn.org.
