Last week, the Housing First Minnesota Foundation, Lennar, and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) held a groundbreaking ceremony to launch their latest Housing For Heroes charitable project in North Minneapolis, the construction of a brand-new home with an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) that MACV will own and operate.
The three-bedroom home with ADU will help MACV address a growing need, housing for veterans who are experiencing homelessness.
This groundbreaking ceremony also celebrated two other supportive homes in North Minneapolis which will be built to serve veterans in need. Each home will provide veterans with stable housing and the supportive services necessary to transition into independent living.
These are the 12th, 13th, and 14th Housing for Heroes homes – delivering impactful results and 10 more beds for those in need.
Representatives from the Housing First Minnesota Foundation, MACV, and Lennar gave short remarks at the ceremony emphasizing this project’s importance and impact on Minnesota’s veteran community.
“On any given night in Minnesota there are approximately 250 veterans experiencing homelessness,” said Sofia Humphries, executive director of the Housing First Minnesota Foundation. “Our collective mission is to change that statistic and see veteran homelessness in Minnesota reach functional zero. Every Housing for Heroes project brings us closer to making this goal a reality.”
