Nor-Son Custom Builders, Inc. was recognized as Avivo’s Champion Volunteer at the 2024 Avivo Night of Champions. Housing First Minnesota Foundation is honored to have partnered with Nor-Son and Avivo on an incredible project to renovate four apartment units that are homes for women in Avivo’s family recovery program.
The remodel of the last four units of the 100-year-old building marks the final chapter of a transformative renovation journey for the full apartment building that now houses 10 families. In addition to the substantial generosity of labor and materials, Nor-Son went above and beyond the project scope and updated the hallways and stairwells at no cost. The impact of their generosity is having a significant in the lives of Avivo families.
“A newly remodeled home for the Avivo families tells them that they matter and have worth and are deserving of a home,” Kelly Matter, Avivo President & CEO.
For many families, this is the first place they have ever called home. These apartment transformations elevate a mother’s confidence enabling them to make lifelong changes.
“The apartment homes are beacons of hope that will positively impact the lives of families for generations to come. We are excited to honor Nor-Son Custom Builders with the Volunteer Champion Award,” shared Matter.
Matt Holmstrom, president of Nor-Son Custom Builders, humbly reflected on the project. “The Avivo project was touching for us. I don’t feel that we deserve the award,” said Holmstrom. “I think Kelly Matter and the Avivo staff really are the ones that should be awarded for all the work they do daily. It’s truly impressive! But, we are happy to receive the award and happy to participate.”
