The Housing First Minnesota Foundation in partnership with build partner Lennar and nonprofit partner the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) has broken ground on the 14th Housing for Heroes home in North Minneapolis. This is the third North Minneapolis Housing for Heroes home constructed this year.
The groundbreaking of this home and two others was celebrated with a special ceremony in April, though this specific home officially broke ground at the end of July 2024.
In their first weeks of work, excavators were able to conclude the initial dig of the homesite and set the concrete footings and foundation of the home.
Weekly progress on the construction continued to move along with foundation waterproofing and excavators backfilling the home. Plumbing, radon, and electric undergrounds have all been completed, as well as pouring the concrete slab floor for the entire home, front stoop, and rear steps.
Most recently, frame material was delivered, and the framing crew has begun their work. Additionally, the main floor, walls, and floor trusses have all been built and set.
The coming weeks are on track to have roof trusses set, roof sheathing installed, and the home completed with framing.
Spring Lake Park High School students, who are a part of their Career Pathways program, have been working on constructing the shed that will be placed in the backyard. They are currently hand-framing the trusses and should have the shed finished soon.
The build continues at a great pace, and Housing First Minnesota Foundation, Lennar, and MACV are thrilled with the progress thus far.
This home, which is scheduled to be completed this Fall, will provide veterans and veteran families with stable housing and supportive services that are needed as they grow, heal and transition into permanent housing.
