The House Job Growth and Energy Affordability Policy and Finance Committee heard testimony from Housing First Minnesota staff on Tuesday.
Nick Erickson, regulatory affairs manager for BATC-Housing First Minnesota, updated the committee on the positive and immediate effect of the legislation removing the sprinkler mandate from twin homes has had on Minnesota’s housing market.
“The sprinkler mandate added between three to eight percent to the price of twin homes,” said Erickson. “These added costs came at a time when other regulatory changes from the state added roughly an additional 15-20,000 dollars in construction costs.”
The bill removing the sprinkler mandate from twin homes was one of several pieces of BATC-Housing First Minnesota’s housing affordability legislation that the Minnesota Legislature passed last year.
Don’t forget, Housing Day at the Capitol is Wednesday, March 14. Register today.
