Housing Affordability Institute, Housing First Minnesota’s housing policy think tank, recently participated in the St. Cloud Workforce Housing Summit. The event was organized by St. Cloud State University’s School of Public Affairs and several community-based organizations.
Nick Erickson, executive director of Housing Affordability Institute, delivered the first half of the opening keynote. Erickson also presented on the industry’s workforce challenges and roadblocks to housing affordability and access.
A common framework for increasing affordability and access is being reviewed in city halls and state legislatures across the country: Zoning modernization which includes modest densification and legalization of more housing types, the lifting of affordability roadblocks, and the abolition of policies used to block needed housing.
