Housing First Minnesota is excited to announce our new campaign, Yes to Home. This consumer-centric campaign aims to protect homeownership for future generations by engaging the public in addressing Minnesota’s home shortage and the regulatory barriers to affordability at the local level. Across several marketing channels, Yes to Home integrates Housing First Minnesota’s consumer marketing expertise, advocacy efforts, and mission to ensure that every Minnesotan has a place to call home.
Why Yes to Home
Outdated policies make it harder to build diverse housing types like starter homes and townhomes. These policies often mandate large lots and luxury features, making new construction unattainable for a growing number of Minnesotans. The impact of these policies is why it costs more to build a new home here than anywhere else in the region, including Chicago.
For years, as Housing First Minnesota and its allies in the legislature have asked for reforms, we’ve been met with a resounding “no” by local officials.
Saying Yes to Home means building more homes of all sizes and prices, removing barriers to building new homes, closing the homeownership gap, and supporting policies that reduce housing costs and increase housing access for all Minnesotans.
