With the release of the Housing Affordability Institute’s Priced Out: The True Cost of Minnesota’s Broken Housing Market the legislature is gearing up for a deeper dive into the reasons that Minnesota cannot build more affordable homes.
The release and subsequent conversation regarding the data has been encouraging. Look for an uptick in bills and committee hearings in the coming weeks.
Additionally, as the construction industry continues to experience a growing workforce shortage, legislators are becoming acutely aware of the issue. Yesterday, Sunny Bowman, chair of the Workforce Development committee, testified in front of the Senate E-12 Committee about the impact of the shortage and encouraging parents and youth to look at the opportunities available in the housing industry.
