For more than 75 years, the Parade of Homes has been Minnesotans’ trusted guide to exploring the best in new home design, innovation, and craftsmanship. Twice a year, we invite you to step inside beautifully crafted homes, gather inspiration, and connect with the talented builders shaping our communities.
This spring, the Parade of Homes is proud to head to Rochester and feature seven homes!
As Rochester continues to grow, it’s clear that housing will be a critical priority for the region. The Parade of Homes is here not only to celebrate the progress being made but also to bring attention to the work still needed to meet the housing demands of the community.
From March 21-April 20, the public will have the opportunity to explore seven stunning homes in this vibrant and growing community. Whether looking for fresh ideas, considering a move, or simply love home design, this expansion allows even more Minnesotans to experience the tour and find inspiration for their own dream home. The Parade of Homes is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and the collective effort to create homeownership opportunities in Minnesota.
Building Rochester’s Future
Rochester stands at an exciting crossroads. With its vibrant economy and growing population, the need for new housing has never been greater. The Parade of Homes not only shines a light on this challenge but celebrates homeownership in this dynamic community.
Rochester has experienced a surge in growth and development over the past decade. As a hub of healthcare, innovation, and education, the city has become a magnet for professionals, families, and students alike. However, with this growth comes a critical challenge: the need for new housing to accommodate the expanding population.
The city’s robust job market, coupled with its high quality of life, has led to a significant increase in demand for housing. Yet, the supply of homes has struggled to keep pace. Newcomers and longtime residents alike are feeling the crunch, with housing availability becoming a pressing issue. The need for diverse housing options has never been more urgent.
“Study after study has shown Rochester is far behind in the production of all types of housing, but especially new, single-family homes. But that is about to change,” said Patrick Sexton, executive director of the Rochester Area Builders. “With new builders entering the market and current builders increasing their output, more people will soon have the chance to own their own home. And homeownership is the key driver in creating generational wealth.”
Why New Housing Matters
Adequate housing is essential for fostering a thriving community. A 2020 housing study revealed that Rochester would need approximately 14,000 new housing units — including multifamily, single-family, townhomes, and condos — to accommodate the city’s projected 2030 population. This estimate came before Mayo Clinic unveiled its downtown expansion plans, which will grow the need for housing at all price points even more. In Rochester, the need for housing extends beyond simply providing shelter; it’s about creating spaces where individuals and families can build their lives, grow, and contribute to the community.
ECONOMIC GROWTH: Rochester’s growing industries depend on attracting and retaining top talent. A robust housing market ensures that professionals can find homes that suit their needs and budgets.
COMMUNITY VITALITY: New housing developments bring fresh energy to neighborhoods, supporting local businesses, schools, and infrastructure.
DIVERSE OPTIONS: With a variety of housing types, Rochester can cater to residents at every stage of life, from young professionals to retirees.
Celebrating Homeownership
The Parade of Homes serves as a reminder that homeownership is more than just a financial investment — it’s a cornerstone of stability and community. This event fosters a sense of excitement around homebuying and highlights the incredible work of local builders and developers.
