Design & Construction Week® (DCW), the joint showcase of the International Builders Show (IBS) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show (KBIS) by the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), drew over 117,000 attendees at this year’s show in February. With more than 2,400 exhibitors and over one million square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibits, this year’s DCW once again showcased all the latest in home design trends, technology, and new products. Here are some of the top trends from the show that offer a glimpse into the evolving landscape of residential construction and design.
Round It Out: Softening Spaces With Curves
Gone are the days of sharp angles and rigid lines dominating our homes. This year, we’re witnessing a shift toward softer edges that exude warmth and invite comfort and that was reflected across the show floor at DCW. Whether it’s a curved island, a round dining table, or a gently arched doorway, incorporating curved elements into home design creates a cozier, more inviting atmosphere.
All Natural: Embracing the Beauty of Nature
Nature has always been a timeless source of inspiration for interior design, but this year,
the focus is on celebrating its raw, unfiltered beauty. From natural wood finishes and stone accents to earthy color palettes and organic textures, bringing the outdoors in is a key trend seen during DCW 2024. Sustainable materials and biophilic design principles have grown increasingly popular as a way to create a serene sanctuary that connects the natural world right within the home.
Pops of Personality: Spaces Infused With Individuality
Gone are the trends of fitting in as more and more homebuyers look to stand out. Infusing personal style into the home has never been more important. This was a clear theme at this year’s show. Many exhibitors embraced the trend of adding pops of personality to any space through bold colors on everything from appliances and cabinets to sinks and unexpected design elements. Whether it’s a vibrant accent wall, an eye-catching light fixture, or a quirky piece of hardware, these unique elements can tell the homeowner’s story. The show floor had numerous ways for homebuilders and homebuyers to create a unique space.
Smart Everything: Harnessing the Power of Technology
In today’s digital age, technology is integrated into nearly every aspect of our lives, and our homes are no exception. Each year DCW features the latest in-home technology and this year’s show was no exception with everything from smart thermostats and lighting systems to voice-activated assistants in the bathroom and a robot butler from LG that can maintain the home through connected smart home appliances.
The trend of “smart everything” continues to revolutionize the way we live. With the touch of a button or a simple voice command, you can effortlessly control your home’s environment and stay connected wherever you are.
