The residents of Cardinal Place in Oakdale now have a new special spot in their neighborhood to share books and read. The BATC Young Professionals committee in partnership with the Saint Paul Association of Realtors community engagement committee cut the ribbon on their first finished Free Little Library in the Cardinal Homebuilder’s Oakdale neighborhood.
Two more libraries are in the works for Apple Valley and Anoka. The goal is to encourage reading at home as studies have shown that having more books at home improves literacy levels and school-readiness among children.
The Free Little Libraries were designed by BATC members. Lampert Lumber donated the supplies for the structures and Dunwoody College of Technology students helped build them. The AVID Group from Tartan High School will be the stewards for the Oakdale Little Library, ensuring that is well maintained and stocked with books.
