Your BATC Foundation has been hard at work! This past Saturday, I had the welcome opportunity to represent the BATC Foundation during Saturday’s unveiling of Eli’s bedroom! Four year old Eli was nearly speechless as his big eyes took in every detail of his new bedroom. Announcing his satisfaction with “everything,” Eli explored his new bedroom and then gave each of us a big hug.
The Foundation was delighted to work with Special Spaces to bring this special bedroom to Eli, who is currently in remission from ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). Special Spaces focuses on creating dream bedroom makeovers for children with life threatening illnesses.
Partnering with Special Spaces, the BATC Foundation launched a design competition for area designers in late January. The top three designs were featured at the April BRS show and the attendees were invited to vote for their favorite design. The Che Bella Interiors was chosen and planning for Eli’s Special Space began in earnest.
Eli’s new bedroom features a custom designed closet with checkered flag curtains and racing car bed. For sleepovers there is a fun loft bed that features a stairway with steps that double as storage drawers. A bright red cubicle unit will keep Eli’s toys organized and a rolling table with bright metal chairs will give Eli room to create the latest in refrigerator art. Vinyl stickers create a racetrack around his room and he can move the stick-on cars to different positions. A set of floating shelves show off his ninja turtles and family photos. Che Bella added a whimsical take on Eli’s name, spelling each letter of “Eli” with Matchbox cars. The frames hang above his bed.
Several BATC members deserve thanks for their help with this project including ABC Millwork, Contract Interiors and Katie Harms. Thanks also go to the team at Che Bella Interiors, they worked hard on Saturday to make their design come to life. Many thanks also go to Special Spaces staff and volunteers — the Foundation is delighted to support this wonderful organization.
