New housing for veterans experiencing homelessness
On November 17, the Housing First Minnesota Foundation, Lennar Minnesota, and the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the latest Housing for Heroes community build on Humboldt Avenue in North Minneapolis. This is the Foundation’s sixth brand-new home that will be owned by MACV.
The four-bedroom home with an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) will help address a growing need for housing for veterans who are experiencing homelessness. Currently, there are 267 veterans on the state’s homeless veterans registry. Once this home is completed, it will provide veterans with stable housing and supportive services they need to transition into independent living. This critical housing program gives homeless veterans the support and confidence to once again find success.
Projects like this take lots of funding. This is the first Housing for Heroes project with an ADU. We want to thank our ADU supporter, the Minneapolis Area REALTORS® Foundation, for making an extremely generous contribution to this project. Thank you so much for your support!
Our Foundation’s seventh Housing for Heroes community build will break ground in late November on Irving Avenue in North Minneapolis.
