The Housing First Minnesota Foundation is proud to announce its newest and largest Community Build Project in partnership with 360 Communities, PulteGroup, Inc., and Greiner Construction. Together, the organizations are helping build Lewis House—a 50-bed, apartment-style domestic violence shelter that will provide safety, stability, and supportive services for survivors and their families.
Set to begin construction in Fall 2026, the $14 million project will become the only domestic violence shelter in Dakota County, serving more than 600 individuals each year—approximately half of whom are children. Designed to offer a secure, welcoming environment, Lewis House will help survivors rebuild their lives with dignity and hope. In addition, the project will include a Survivor Support Center that will provide inclusive, life-changing services to shelter residents and nonresidents alike.

The Housing First Minnesota Foundation and PulteGroup will lead the finishing work on the residential apartment units and key interior spaces within the shelter. By mobilizing the housing industry through in-kind labor, material donations, and financial contributions, the Foundation’s collaborative Community Build model is expected to generate more than $2.50 in value for every dollar invested, significantly reducing construction costs and expanding the long-term impact of services provided by 360 Communities.

“This project represents the power of collaboration within Minnesota’s housing industry to make a meaningful difference in our communities,” says Sofia Humphries, executive director of the Housing First Minnesota Foundation. “Lewis House will provide survivors and their children with more than shelter—it will provide safety, dignity, stability, and a place to begin rebuilding their lives.”
This collaborative effort with create a secure, welcoming environment designed to foster healing, stability, and hope.
