Housing First Minnesota has been busy the past two weeks with summer meetings with regulatory agencies.
Construction Code Advisory Council (CCAC): At its summer meeting, the CCAC discussed the 2017 Legislative Session, including the fee reductions, changes to the contractor recovery fund, and the BATC v. DLI technical fix, as well as the upcoming building code cycle updates.
DLI staff will begin to assemble and will work with interested parties to assemble their Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs). The CCAC will officially appoint TAG members an upcoming meeting, with the TAGs beginning their work after the first of the year. The 2018 codes are expected to go into effect in the first quarter of 2020.
Board of Plumbing: This meeting was primarily focused on commercial plumbing.
Board of Electricity: The only topic of interest to homebuilders and remodelers at the meeting was an update on overall enforcement actions from DLI, which residential contractors face more than any other group.
In addition to these meeting, the Housing First Minnesota team is busy preparing to issue industry comments on several potential regulatory changes, including Minnesota’s proposed RRP (Lead Paint) Rules and potential MPCA fee increases.
